Solstice 2010
By
Ivan Ewert

Start at the very beginning of the Solstice series

In the days of the first Voyageurs, some lucky few found themselves enchanted by a unique place along the Fox Valley. The great ash tree which stood along the riverbank served as their gathering place, and it was here that they both made their fortunes and perpetuated their wars against the native peoples. Around that ash grew a community, around that community grew a town. It was a place unto itself, set apart from its neighbors by chance, by choice, and by something more. Not all who live within its boundaries are aware of how they differ from the mass of mankind, of how far from human they truly are.

Those souls drawn to Solstice are twiceborn, reincarnate spirits of primordial beings who walked the earth in the days of legends. Here in the streets of this modern exurb, those once worshipped as gods rub shoulders with the great beasts of myth. Their powers have fled, their fame reduced to dry studies for intellectuals, yet here they gather; both those who recall their rightful place - and those who have fallen even from their own memories.

Factions exist within Solstice, as in all places. Mayor Long oversees the largest number of twiceborn, his coils wrapped loose yet steady all the same. The forces of Creation pursue their none-too secret vendettas against those forces which once stood for destruction, though they have suffered much of late; and the ranks of those Independents swell in silence as a new sun breaks across the rim of the valley.

She heralds new beginnings - a brighter day for many, though her truths remain hidden within her mortal dream. What will wake beneath her bright and beaming smile, what will change in Solstice and her citizens?

What, too, will end as the moon first shows, then shifts his fickle face?

It is a year of endings, a year of new beginnings.

A year of Solstice.

13 - Winter, Part Four - Winter in the valley is a time of cold and of darkness. Though once the light of the sun would return fierce and brightly, these days she must be coerced and tempted to show her face to Solstice. Stephanie MacIntyre is not a woman used to coercion or subtlety, and this mask begins to fray - along with her loyalty to Mayor Long.

14 - Winter, Part Five - Stephanie keeps Kim in the daylight through the harsh winter's day, delivering food and goods to those most in need. On arrival at the hospital, however, an old and only half-familiar face greets them over the sickbed of Bacchus.

15 - Winter, Part Six - As Soon moves from the picture, those she has touched begin to show their colors. Bacchus' allies begin the dance which will lead them together, as Long's minions draw ever further apart. Winter turns to spring with the ides of March, and some odd awakenings begin to transpire.
